I think someone kicked the machine...things appear to be showing up slowly!

This is precisely why I'm not a fan of the new layout. Everything is now a search engine-type style instead of the traditional page layout the majority of us have always loved. I always avoided searching because it lagged so much, and failed most of the time, and now I'm forced to do that. It's making this site close to unusable.

Speak for yourself. I've always been a huge fan of the search engine. It's SO much more powerful and flexible. It can do all sorts of stuff that you simply can't do with static links. (Like find all shows with a particular song or particular guest artist or at a particular venue--all things I do far more often than I poke around at random in a given year.) And trying to find a specific show, unless you already knew the exact date (or at least the year), was a complete pain with the old system. And even then, if you knew the exact date, a search was usually faster. There are some things that aren't perfect about the new system, but I don't miss the old system one bit. And the old system had problems and breakage a lot more often than the new one has.

Yes, search has been unbearably slow today, while the system's been repairing itself. But most of the time, the search engine works very well, IMO. And the repair seems to be turning up a bunch of shows that had slipped between the cracks--shows that would probably have been lost forever with the old system. (I know one guy who had six uploads completely lost in one month with the old system. Ask _him_ if he wants the old system back!)

The new system is (normally) fast enough for most purposes, even if it's not exactly a speed demon. I'd rather have something that works slowly-but-well than something that doesn't work, but does it quickly. :)

And let's not talk about "traditional" with something that was only a few years old to start with. I prefer to think of the old system as an early, flawed attempt, best forgotten. Of course, I may have had more direct experience with the old systems' flaws, as a regular uploader and friend of other uploaders, but still....
